Essence of Love & life

Whereas Babel is the parable of (human) pride which breeds inequity, division & confusion, such foretastes are also mini Pentecosts - acted parables (in every language, culture & place) in which God's redeeming grace, justice & shalom are revealed.

The agony & the ecstasy...suffering and glory...dying and rising

The agony & the ecstasy

Out of the Crucible of suffering comes truly joyful praise.

Suffering and glory

The true victory power & glory of love is always revealed in its vulnerability, its will and ability to risk, to give all for the sake/saving of others.

dying and rising

He is no fool who gives what he cannot keep to gain what he cannot lose. [Incarnation] Christ wholly identifies with sinful humanity and its predicament and believers with Him in His total saving plan.

The cross of Christ is the greatest mystery in the world. It is a place of apparent defeat and yet unassailable victory.

① "[Now] the Lord is the Spirit and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom; and we, who with unveiled faces all reflect the Lord's glory, are being transformed into his likeness with ever increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit."

2 Corinthians 3:17-18

② Dear friends, now we are children of God and what we will be has not yet been made known [but] we know that when (Jesus) he appears / and it is made known, we shall be like Him, for we shall see him as he is.

1 John 3:2

③ The Lord Jesus Christ, who by the power that enables him to bring everything under his control, will transform our lowly bodies so that they will be like his glorious body.

Mission is...

Mission is ultimately not only about people but about the renewal of all things in Christ. The transformation of individuals by the good news of the gospel [Jesus] still is and always will be, central but the biblical gospel of Jesus Christ is also good news for every Creature [aspect of God's creation]. One helpful model to understand this wider definition of mission is the [Archbishop of the Anglican Communion]'s 'five marks of mission':

  • to proclaim [declare] the good news of the Kingdom
  • to teach, baptise & nurture new believers
  • to respond to human need by loving service
  • to seek to transform unjust structures of society
  • to strive to safeguard the integrity of creation and sustain & renew the earth.
The first 2 marks cover the traditional understanding of Jesus' Matthew 28:19-20. They are essentially about evangelism and discipleship. The third & fourth marks encompass the Christian response to the suffering in the world, our mission to the poor and marginalized and our commitment to challenging and changing injustice. The fifth mark is creation care, our mission towards the non-human creation.

God's ultimate plan

God's ultimate plan

Luke 19:10 The Son of man came to seek and save those who are lost and has entrusted graciously to us His ministry of reconciliation in/through Christ Jesus (2 Cor 5:16-21, Col 1:19-23)

We must understand our individual ministry in a body ("us") context/as the body of Christ. The Church's prime aim is to seek/work for those who are not (yet) its members.

the model of mission/outreach/reconciliation ministry as His ambassadors is Jesus' own approach to people as how where they are. Luke 19:10; 2 Cor 5:16-21

Pray and Do not Prayer or Do. Prayer needs to support/partner with outreach.

NB Keep close to Holy Spirit's promptings.

Have no fear/guilt in outreach; know & show God's grace & joy in outreach.

The prayer Jesus taught us...

Our Father in heaven,

Holy/honoured is your Name,

(May/Let) Your Kingdom come,

(May/Let) Your will be done on earth, as it is in heaven

Give us today our daily (spiritual/material) bread (all things truly needful for us) and Forgive us our sins/debts/trespasses as we forgive those who sin/trespass against us.

[Lord, fully aware of our weakness and of our need for (dependence on) Your grace] (we pray) Lead us not into hard testing/the time of trial/temptation;

but deliver us from evil (the evil one)

For Yours is the Kingdom, the power and the glory, now and forever. Amen.

In the Gospel account of Jesus' testing/temptation in the wilderness, we see the (all-powerful) Holy Spirit taking the initiative to unmask the devil/the evil one, for what/who he really is. We must - as Christ's disciples/body members, always be willing to let the Holy Spirit do the same in us.

Revelation from weakness...

God often blesses in surprising/unexpected ways. God sometimes sends his blessings in the strangest ways/disguises. Why? So rightly - He gets the glory!

Romans 8:28-29
2 Corinthians 12:9-10

I myself, for instance, am not specially gifted and am shy by nature but my gracious and merciful God and Father inclined Himself to me, who was weak in Faith. He strengthened while I was still young. He taught me in my helplessness to rest in Him and to pray even about little things in which another might have felt able to help himself.

(2 Chronicles 20:12)

J Hudson Taylor

Taste [believe/trust/obey/encounter/experience - actively/continuously] and see [understand] that the LORD is good... Psalm 34:8

In the light of God's/Love's revelation, believing is seeing [2 Corinthians 5:7]

Thursday 4 April 2013

To worship (in Spirit & Truth) is to change / to be changed

In Worship in Spirit & in Truth → in prayer conforming (by the Spirit of Truth) to the will of God, we are challenged and changed in our Spirit/lives, → to be restored / transformed re-created / transfigured more & more into Jesus' glorious likeness. In our weakness → the grace of God → reveals His Strength & patience "Give us this day, Lord" grace/bread/manna for the day. God's grace is always enough.

2 Corinthians 12:9-10

"Do in me whatever you need to do so that you can do through me whatever you want to do."

Ewan Roberts - early C20th Welsh revival leader

Isaiah 6:8

"The dignity of difference/variety (in the image of God) flows from the mystery / the nature / the essence of (Divine) Love."

"The eyes of the Lord range throughout the earth to strengthen those whose hearts are fully committed to him."

2 Chronicles 16:9(a)

"All the arts (and perhaps most deeply / powerfully music) are a vital way of understanding ourselves. They are God's gifts of grace to help us in this quest. For as we are made in the image of our Creator, yet estranged deeply from Him by the Fall, we are continually asking 'Who/what are we? Where do we come from? and where are we going? / D'où Venons Nous / Que Sommes Nous / Où Allons Nous?'"

In the final analysis what really matters is whether we have been faithful stewards of God's grace to us. God is just too gracious to be rejected, neglected or ignored.

The 4 dimensions/paradoxes of Christian faith strength - weakness; losing - saving; wisdom - folly; last - first.

We are made in God's image for exercising trust/faith in relationship. The model is God Himself 3 in 1, 1 in 3, in ultimate relationship both with(in) Himself and with all His creation. Thus it is never a question with any of us of faith or no faith - rather, the question always is "In what or in whom, do we put our faith?"

Romans 1:21&22&25, Hebrews 11:1&6, 2 Corinthians 5:7

Above all, let us remember the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ who though he was rich - yet for our sakes he became poor so that we through His poverty might become truly rich.

2 Corinthians 8:9

I am...

I am loved, therefore I am

I exist, because God (Love) loves me

Love in
Holy Trinity
3 in 1, 1 in 3

Loves me enough to create me

Loves me enough to die for me

Holy Spirit

Loves me enough to yearn to love in me

In Jesus, God / Love loves me us completely / unconditionally so we can trust to Him all of ourselves / our future whatever comes, for He is wholly reliable all-wise faithful & true.

Father, bless us with Yourself:

  • to become more & in your likeness, to be ever better channels of your blessings to many others, in Jesus, for your greater glory, Amen.
  • so that more of your goodness grace, joy & glory are revealed in Jesus, Amen.

Christian Prayer...

Christian Prayer is asking God [the Sovereign King of Love] to work in & through us by His (Sovereign) power to do His will.

Thus for the Christian, prayer & life should be one in God.

John 16

John 5:14-15

Prayer is an active relationship / communion with God (Love) rooted & nurtured in deep simplicity which is child like faith - active trust.
